Review: R. Kelly in NYC

Who was in NYC for Kells' show at the WaMu theatre? For those who weren't, mtv.com wrote this review, calling it "a chance to dig through one of the deepest catalogs of classics of any current viable act." It was all there..."I'm a Flirt", "Step in the Name of Love", "Thoia Thoing", "Bump N' Grind"...all the hits were represented.

Kells even premiered a new song on the spot for a very special stagehand, it went a little something like this...

"Can you move that carpet, please?/ 'Cause I almost tripped three goddamn times." He repeated this impromptu, sing-songy request a few times before talking to the crowd: "Y'all know I make a song outta everything. Y'all laughing, but that sh-- be on the radio."

I was there! Kells is amazing. He's definitely a huge hit in New York above most places. I loved it. He can really put on a great show.

Loved It! Kelly is one of the only singers whose live vocals match what we hear on the radio..A big fan since day one!!

Hell yeah. I am so grateful that there were only 2 short acts (Pleasure P and a girl from Memphis-she could sing even though I forgot her name). Kells basically performed the whole night. I love me some KELLS boy. He was singing songs i.e. I Wish, Your Body's Calling, Tempo Slow, Number One, Feelin On Ya Booty, Step In the Name of Love, etc. and NYC was singing the songs right back. I had so much fun because KELLS personality really came alive while he was performing. He has a great sense of humor and he is so sexy. I was nlowing kisses to him the whole night, lol. Oh and he really can sing. He has a nice voice. He even took us to church with the Sam Cooke songs he performed. I can't wait for his next Tour, even though I wasn't far from the stage, next time I will be in the front row. LOVE YOU KELLS!

I LOVE YOU KELLS. I agree with the person who wrote the post "Saw the concert" man he really do sound the same on stage as he do on the radio. I would love to see KELLS do his thing in the booth as a Birthday present! I would love if Kells could sing his song Forever More at my wedding when I get married!

I really love the fact that the New York show went well; I was a bit nervous about this one... Its on to conquer the world from here.

Its also nice to see that he's performing tracks from the old albums; it shows he hasn't forgotten about us his core fan base that love the mature and soulful Rob more than the Double Up Kellz (Lol!)....

He's got my vote anyday though.

Mr. Kelly, I just wanted to let you know that I am truly your number ONE fan. I say that because when you travel from stste to state just for a concert, you are loved. Your concerts are beyond extravagant! They are AWESOME!! I loved when you sang to me in Augusta Georgia at the BELL !! I was so excited !!!! Your voice is like a hummingbird. When I am down and out, I sit an listen to you sing through your cds. Your songs just don't make babies, your songs sooth the soul and sets your mind for relaxation. Your concert in Augusta was just OUTSTANDING!! I do not care how much tickets costs, whenever you are near, I come. The magazines and television people also the internet downed you in your era of trials and tribulations, but I was always a humble fan and stood by your side. Lessons were learned but KELLY, you beat the case and you came back to your fans with open arms. I have all of your music and waiting for more! You are very talented and your collaborations are hits. Thank you, well I thank JoAnn for having raised you into the fine young man you are today. Your music really inspires me and helps me to write my poetry, thank you. I just had to say all of this because it was in my heart and on my mind. Thank you for the many concerts and cds that you have produced for me to purchase and come to. Maybe one day I will get to meet you in person, that is my solemn wish, but until then you are still my R&B KING and Im still your NUMBER 1 FAN......................................

Hello Mr. Robert,

My name is Tim. Besides your talent and music, I was first impressed with you as a good person, a great human being back in 2000 when I was a Tulane University Student in New Orleans and a big fan of yours since 1993, and I had noticed you in our men's locker room. I had called you by your name, "Mr. Robert", and you had walked back 50-100 feet even though you were out the door to come back to me simply to shake my hand and acknowledge me as a regular person, a senior student. I know have a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry but I would love to get another chance to sit down and talk with you. All my ex-girfriends, friends in general, and even acquaintances know that if they know Tim they have to understand and appreciate R.Kelly's music - that's how influential you are. When I first heard "Sweet Sadie" I thought about my mother, whom I also lost when I was only 18.

...Now, about the NYC concerts I saw this past Friday and Saturday. I went with my ex-girlfriend on Friday and with a good buddy on Saturday, and I was truly amazed. I do not miss your concerts when they're in town, but I am in awe at how smooth and strong your voice was, how friendly and funny you were to the audience, and how you have matured as a show-man over the years. Just the sheer amount of songs you sing at your concerts are impressive, and demonstrate how much you value all your fans' favorites to fit them all into your show. The smooth transitions from song to song, the "Strip For You" performance, and "Fiesta", as well as tributes to Michael Jackson, another King whom I used to be a fan of, to Sam Cooke, and the clip to "I Can't Sleep" were highlights for me and were great. I would love to see more reggae music as you evolve into that genre, and "Slow Wind" in the next shows, and "I Believe I Can Fly" as well. Your voice is crisp, you had great dancers, great improvisation, jokes, costumes. This is the most solid tour and concerts I have ever seen you perform. It is my dream to sit down and talk to you, and become friends one day or to party together with a group of my closest friends and yours at a club or something like that, or at a wedding or a big celebration.

Good luck with the rest of your tour! I can't wait for your album as well for more reggae and neo-classic stuff from your music in the future, and finally all your work with the great MICHAEL JACKSON. You are now the KING OF R & B and the KING OF POP!!!

I really enjoyed the show it was fantastic. This was my 5th concert tour seeing you perform and each tour has been as exciting as the first. I have traveled distances to watch you perform yet, seeing you for the third time in Augusta, GA was just thrilling to me you are a true performer. I have always loved Sam Cooke and the soulful sounds of Ray Charles their the greatest in entertainment and you fit perfectly well with them.

I remember my first tour and how warm and genuine you were however, nothing can compare to this one. Seeing you up close and live and face to face has left me speechless. You are beautiful inside and outside and I am please to be a fan.

Thank you, for your willingness to talk with me and my sister and to give us an autograph. I had been looking forward to the hug and it was genuine. Too, bad I had to share you with all the other fans.....SMILE...What I mean is we all love you. After all, what is music without a listener, but you don't just give good music, you give good showmanship.

It felt great to meet you finally, I can't say that I am your number one fan, for you have millions. Augusta showed you how much we love you, by the show being sold out.

I can't thank you enough, a great show, a warm reception, a fantastic crew, a warm hug, an autograph, a conversation....Wow, what a great early birthday present for me and my sister.

Thank you again, can't wait to get Untitled, Cause There is something Religious about You.

I drove from Little Rock Arkansas to New Orleans to see the Ladies Make Some Noise Tour. The concert in Memphis TN was sold out. I must say that the concert was worth the 7 hour drive. R Kelly is AMAZING!!!!!!! I LOVED when he sang Never Would Have Made It...the emotion that came behind the song gave me chills. I really hope to get the chance to meet you Kells, keep up the great work. I can't wait until Dec 1st to get the new CD.

Hands down the greatest of all times.

Mr. Kelly I am a fan of your music, please continue to bring us the hits. I have not personally had the pleasure of attending any of your concerts but have heard rave reviews with ONE EXCEPTION---when you call the ladies to surround the stage it is impossible for the people who have paid top dollar to sit close to the stage to enjoy the concert. Please consider rethinking this request because although some of your younger fans may enjoy this, some of your fans who are closer to your age and over do not relish the fact that they have spent money only to be trampled on and then have their view obstructed for the remainder of your performance. Most stages with floor seating do not have elevated seats and this turns an otherwise enjoyable evening to an unpleasant one.

I wish I could have went to see him. I didnt know anything about the tour until it was over.

Hey Babe its monie: Just wanted to let you know that the Wamu theatre concert was off the hook. Your vocals where "On an Poppin" You sang that rug song, was a show stopper. Loved it. It reminded me of the cheese toast song, in the born into the 90's video on B.E.T. that you did in the white palace, just taking you back. cheese toast, cheese toast come and get some of that cheese toast, dam kelly seems like yesterday.. I told the lady next to me who was about sixty years old to hold on to her wig, he's about to set it off, when I turned about about mid way in the concert, her wig was leaning to the side... dam near off her head... "DAM". I laughed my azz off.. All i could say to her was "I told you". He ain't no studio artist, my boo can sing. Ole lady said when is the next concert? I think she tried to get in on Saturday. You are truely the greatest artist around, who got great vocals. Like ya music teacher said, "he a giant you're just seeing a tip of the Ice burg" she was 100% right... You can hoop, you can sing, your azz is fine azz hell!! That's why you will always be my #1 artist, luv ya can't wait for you to drop the cd. Grammy's get ready here he comes again... Love ya no#1 fan in the NYC. Monielove.

What album was the Na Na Na old school song that R Kelly sung on? I have gone through every one of the CD's that I have and I can't find it....... I was at the Concert in Houston and he was like "Let me see how many of ya'll really love me and then he started singing this song.... I talked to some friends and they said he gave this song away......but to who? Or did he?
